PLPA 616Methods in Molecular Biology of Plant-Microbe Interactions

Course Description:
The topics of this course focus on the concepts and techniques used in molecular plant pathology to study the interactions between hosts and pathogens. The focus will be on understanding the rationale for implementing certain procedures and the theoretical concepts underlying the methodology.
Requirements:
Although there are no strict course requirements, a general knowledge of plant pathology, genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology is advised.

Class Organization:
The class meets either once a week on Tuesdays from 11:00 until 12:30, or twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:10 until 12:00 AM. Details provided in attached sheets show that the course is composed of lectures and student presentations, and laboratory exercises. At specific dates during the semester papers will be handed out for either take home assignments or tests in class.

The course will be graded according to the following percentages:
Three Homework Assignments (15% each) 45%
Midterm 15%
Presentation 15%
Final Exam 25%
Bonus points can be accumulated by active participation in class
