Ph.D. University of Nottingham, England Botany 1965

Research Description:
Developmental and molecular biology of higher plants and their viruses. Transgenic dicot and monocot plants and infectious RNA transcripts are used to gain insight to fundamental processes of gene regulation; current interests focus on the role of chromatin in both expression and silencing. Brome mosaic virus, a pathogen of many monocot crops, has been used to study replication mechanisms applicable to a wide range of positive-sense RNA viruses and recent work has investigated gene-specific silencing of BMV replication.
