Molecular Biology

Credit Hours: 3

Course Description:

This course covers the replication strategies, biochemistry and viral host interactions at the molecular level. The replication strategies and biochemistry are covered for all the major families of viruses infected animals, including humans. Selected viral systems from each major family will be discussed in-depth in order to provide students with an understanding of a number of experimental approaches available for research in virology.

Grading:

A 10 page (or less) proposal is required for the course. The proposed subject should be directed toward solving a problem encompassing some aspect of virology. The format will be similar to that of proposals submitted for federal funding.

Requirements:

As prerequisites, It is strongly recommended that students have completed courses in biochemistry &/or molecular biology.
